I'm Michael manda Berg I'm an artist in New York City and I wrote software that transforms Wikipedia into seven thousand four hundred and seventy three books there's two reasons why I did this one is I wanted to see how big it was it was a question I had the other reason is that as an artist I work a lot with found materials and I like to try to see what the smallest move I can make is that will transform them so in this case taking them from a text form in a database or as a website and turning them into books was enough of a transformation that the meaning itself is different Wikipedia is free to share and copy and remix under its Creative Commons license and that's what makes a project like this possible what's interesting is that under a Creative Commons license you have to give attribution in order to give attribution to all seven and a half million contributors to English Wikipedia I created a contributor appendix that's 36 volumes long that lists every one of their names in alphabetical order this is only English Wikipedia it's not my intention to print the whole thing I don't think you need to print the whole thing you need to print some of it you need to see some of them see even understanding what this form is our brains can complete the rest of it
Thanks for your comment Zack Lawary, have a nice day.
