hi it's Rochelle and today I want to share with you quick step to keep your patent leather items looking new and fresh at least for me my patent on the palms tend to quire scuff marks quite easily and before I'd have to take them into the shoe repair guy but now I found some remedies that will work right at home now there are a couple variety of fixes floating around the internet and I've tested most of them and I wanted to let you know which ones I found to be most effective but first let's start out with the ones that are not that effective toothpaste was a remedy that I've seen somewhere and it did not work on my items but if you don't have any of the other things I'm gonna tell you to use and the only thing you have money of this toothpaste I'd say go ahead and give it a try but for me it wasn't that effective another one that I didn't find to be very good at removing discuss is Vaseline but what battling is good for regarding your patent leather items is reinvigorating it's shine so if your shoes are going a little dingy or your items okay a little dingy you can get a nice cloth and a saline and brighten up that shine that you want them to have that nice new shine but the things that I found that worked the best for removing the scuff our plain old good old fashioned alcohol and non acetone nail polish remover and the reason I say non acetone is because that is very very important do not use regular acetone on your patent leather shoes and I've learned this the hard way because when you put the acetone on your shoes it actually removes not only the scuff mark which it does do but it removes the shine so instead of having a scuff mark then you just have a dingy spot in your shoe but the non acetone nail polish remover does not remove any of the shine it just removes the scuff like alcohol does so these items are my go-to and if you don't have those on hand or you're out and about something that does work which is not quite as well it is hand sanitizer and this is something you're more likely to have on hand with you while you're out in public and you scuff your shoes and you need a quick fix but if you're at home I reach for the alcohol or is it non acetone nail polish remover and as always check a little spot of your shoe before rubbing it all over your big scuff I've never had any issues with the alcohol or non acetone nail polish remover but you know every item varies every color of patent leather and shade you know just test a little inconspicuous spot before you start really rubbing it on heavily so let me just show you this in action so to start I'm just gonna dip my q-tip in my solution of choice starting with the non acetone nail polish remover there's my nice pretty scuff there on my shoe and I'm just going to start buffing away and pretty soon after you start you should see the scuff starting to lift quite quickly you can see my little one down there is almost completely gone I'm working on this big scuff and you can use quite a bit of pressure to help it get removed it should affect the patent shine much at all you can see it's almost gone but I just want to get a little a lot completely gone I'm gonna go in a little bit more rubbing pretty hard but sometimes on a lighter material like this a stain can be a little bit more stubborn so I'm actually going to try a two-step process here I'm going to put some alcohol on a cotton ball and on the cup with the cotton ball it allows me to rub just a little bit harder than with a q-tip so I really just want to keep rubbing away almost gone just a little bit more and you should have a nice shiny shoe and it should be scuff free just like that and there you have it with just a few household items that you probably already have on hand you can get your shoes looking like you and as you saw there this scuff was a little bit stubborn so I did a two-step process a little bit of nail polish remover and then cotton ball with some alcohol but most of the time on my scuffs I can just dip a q-tip in either solution and rub it right on there and the scuff will come right off but if it's being stubborn like mine was today then go with the two-step method and then unfortunately some scuff marks are just too stubborn and don't want to come off at all in which case then take your shoe into the shoe repair shop but before you do that and go spend your money make sure you try this DIY at-home method first and that's my affordably fabulous tip for you today have fun rocking your pumps and we will see you next time bye

hi I'm Kirby Allison founder of the hanger project and here at the hanger project we love helping the well dress take care of their wardrobes and today's video I'm gonna be showing you how to clean patent leather shoes using the severe varnish reef patent leather cleaner if you have any questions or comments during this video please ask them in the comment section below I get back to all those questions personally today I'm going to be cleaning migrants and patent leather opera pumps now these shoes actually bought back in college and are a great example of how if you shop the sales you can find some absolute gems I'm certain that I bought these for 200 and $250 grenzen is a very well-known brand of English shoes and they do absolutely great work and so whenever I bought these back in college they were a great find I've absolutely enjoyed wearing them and over ten years later they're the shoes that I still wear every single time I put on my black tie now safir's varnish reef patent leather cleaner comes in two colors black and neutral I'm gonna be using the black today but the neutral is great for women's shoes you know like nude pumps or red Louboutins that you know your wife may have it's an absolutely great product that it's gonna clean and help refine the patent leather cleaning patent leather is very simple there's really not much you can do with it because it's such a treated leather I mean to call it leather is a little bit of a stretch in my opinion because it is created treated with a polyurethane the only way to really take care of patent leather is just to treat it with the severe patent leather cleaner now the severe patent leather cleaner comes with a small chamois but I'm gonna be using one of our larger hangar project jammies and during this tutorial step one take your cotton chamois and just gently clean the patent leather now the purpose here is to just wipe any type of surface dirt off of the shoe and to get them as clean as possible before you apply the patent leather cleaner step to apply the patent leather cleaner to the shoe I like to shake this first you know to make sure that it's well mixed and then just gently open this up and be careful that you're working either on a protective surface or someplace that if you were to accidentally spill this you wouldn't be upset because it would ruin anything that it were to spill on top of and I'm just going to use one of our hanger projects shammies this comes with the chamois but I like to use one of my own sham it's just because it's larger so apply this generously to the cloth and then what you're gonna do is just simply wipe this onto the shoe now you can be generous in its application what you're gonna do is allow this to dry for three or five minutes and then you're gonna come back over and buff it off now this is going to help design the patent leather now it's not going to fix any type of like deep scratches or scuffing but it will certainly make the pen lid or shiny Anna now the patent leather really isn't absorbing this in the same way that calf skin would absorb like say the severe Madonna or polish and the reason is because it's so heavily treated that you know really that the material is completely sealed so here we're just honestly treating just the surface of the leather itself so I've applied the patent leather cleaner step three is to allow the patent leather cleaner to dry for between three and five minutes now after you've allowed the patent leather cleaner to dry for about three to five minutes you can tell it's dry whenever it's gone from clear to fogged the next next step is really easy you know basically take a clean portion of the same chamois that you use to apply that patent leather cleaner and you're just going to buff it off now this is gonna buff that patent leather cleaner to a nice soft shine you can really see that buffington a nice shine after I've bucked off that first application of the severe patent leather cleaner it really will expose whether or not you have any kind of harder spots that need to be treated on the patent leather and if you see on the left shoe there is some hard kind of spotting on the front of this toe so what I recommend is taking a little bit of alcohol and again you can apply this on your cotton chamois and then gently see if you can work those spots off so I'm applying this this alcohol to my chamois so I'm just gonna try to gently work those spots off and as you can see it's fogging up the patent-leather a little bit so you don't want to do this too hard because you don't want to affect that polyurethane finish but it should be really effective at taking off any spots that the patent leather cleaner isn't able to get off by itself and then what I'm gonna do is I'm going to reapply another coat of the patent leather cleaner to that area that we spot treated in order to redevelop that shine now that's not something I would recommend doing to the entire shoe but again if you have any of those hard spots that don't come off after your first application of the patent leather cleaner and you really want to try to get those off you can try the alcohol and see if that works so there we go I've reapplied that I'm going to allow this to dry you can see that it didn't take everything off but it certainly did take a lot of those you know that that spotting off of the front of the shoe and then the patent leather cleaner helped bring that back up to a shine so my only recommendation would be not to go too hard with the alcohol because you don't want to affect the actual smoothness of that finish applied to the patent leather because if you do that then you actually damage the integrity of the patent leather and you won't be able to resign it so you really just want a spot treat only as needed and then focus on just the areas that you could come back on top of this with the second application that patent leather cleaner just to try to elevate that shine even further but otherwise I think these patent leather shoes look fantastic and they're ready to be worn at a nice black-tie event you know before I go out and I wear a pair of my patent leather shoes you know just apply a quick coat and buffing actually keep a bottle of this in the same shoe storage box that I keep my grandson opera pumps in and so patent leather beautiful shoes always shiny the patent leather cleaner is a great way to take care of them other than that there's not much you can do to care of your patent leather shoes as far as shoe care is concerned
