if you have a copyright claim on one of your YouTube videos stick around because this is a complete guide on how to fix it let's do this the first thing you need to do is click on your profile image in the top right hand corner of a screen on most YouTube pages and go to the YouTube studio from the dashboard page click on the video section down the left-hand side to list all of your most recent videos you will see a filter button which if clicked gives you the option to show you only those videos with copyright claims against them now on this video list you will see a restrictions column and if you mouse over the copyright claim you can click on see details to display the copyright claim pop up screen for the affected video the top section will display the impact the copyright claim is having on your channel the videos at global visibility and monetization of a content below that you can view the video itself CV specific copyright claim as well as what actions you can take the replace a mute song options are long existing YouTube tools that will do exactly as described however this new a trim out segment gives you a little more control this new feature will highlight the segment of the video directly relating to the copyright claim offering the Creator the opportunity to remove it and release a claim against that segment of the video do bear in mind that any features such as info cards art breaks and end screens contained within the trim section will be removed from a video if you're happy click continue to resolve the issue have you ever encountered any copyright issues on your own YouTube channel intentional or not do let us know in the comments below and whether or not you think this tool will help you in the future hello I'm Rob and welcome to video the YouTube tool and channel aims to educate you on your YouTube journey make sure to subscribe so that you don't miss any of our content and click on a notification bell so that you're notified first when we release new content of course a creators can run into all sorts of copyright issues if they don't understand the licensing laws behind them and how often have you seen video creators try to hide behind the fair use defense which often isn't fully understood by the creator themselves to be honest if you're actively trying to put disclaimers into your video and the video descriptions the chances are you probably don't fully understand fair use there are also times when copyright claims can happen by mistake you just happen to be vlogging outside and there is some copyright music playing in the background then really unfortunately there's nothing you can do about it it's just unfortunate circumstances in more extreme cases and with those who clearly flaunt the copyright rules if you get copyright strikes then you could be in serious trouble three of them and your channel is terminated no ifs or buts so as a word to be very wise out there learn up on copyrights there's lots of material on YouTube and I'm going to leave some links in the video description if you do decide to trim the video YouTube will need time to process this as well as reevaluating your video for monetization if you need to check your channel for more serious copyright strikes from the YouTube studio go to settings then channel followed by the Advanced tab at the top and at the bottom of this screen you'll see a link to status and features it's a pretty old screen at this point and it's likely to change soon but currently it tells you all of the YouTube features you have access to as well as any community and copyright strikes on your channel so as you can see although we have a couple of copyright claims that that may affect monetization on individual videos we don't have any of the more serious copyright strikes against the channel now perhaps you're on the flip side of this copyright equation and someone is using your copyrighted YouTube content well if you're a part of the YouTube Partner Program you may have access to the copyright tool which shows you if video creators are using your content without your permission we have a full up video tutorial on this tool so make sure to check it out if you want to know more and did you notice these extra features down the left-hand side well these are just some of the awesome channel growth tools you will get access to if you download vid IQ it will help you research YouTube analyze any video on the platform order your own YouTube channel and take action all steps it is free to download there is a link in the video description for more YouTube beginners guys just like this check out the playlists over here and to learn more about vid IQ and how it can help grow your channel we've got a beginners guided down there thank you very much watching and of course enjoy the rest of your video making day

if youtube detects a copyright match on your content it will alert you before you even publish the video now isn't that just a brilliant idea here's an annoying question for you have youtube ever hit you with the copyright claim smackdown on one of your videos after it's gone live if yes share your horror stories in the comments below hello i'm rob welcome back to vid iq and in this video i'm going to show you how this is never ever going to happen again yes you should be used to the youtube upload process by now your internet speed determines how fast the video uploads and the video processing is usually pretty much done a few minutes later but what you should now start to see are multiple further checks that youtube automatically conducts on your videos and you can view what those checks are from this step in the upload process that's right folks youtube will now automatically check whether your video contains copyrighted content and it will even tell you how long it's going to take if youtube pings a copyright match it will let you know before you even have a chance to publish your video now isn't that just a brilliant idea from this same screen you can view the impact this copyright claim has had on your channel in pretty much all circumstances a copyright claim doesn't impact the channel in terms of strikes however the video may be blocked in some countries and will almost certainly not be monetized at least for you anyway the copyright holder at least in youtube's current setup is well within their rights to monetize this video for their financial gain that's the price of using someone else's content to be honest i would just be thankful at this point but it's not a copyright strike which is a lot more serious now if you decide that you want to continue uploading this video you can take the following actions to remove the copyright claim which are to replace a song mute it or dispute it if you want to learn more about any of these actions i highly recommend watching this video where we uploaded a video and added a copyright song on purpose just to show you what happened also bear in mind that while you do have some flexibility with copyright music when it comes to copyright video footage then you're just gonna have to remove that entire section of the video and it's probably best if you just re-upload the video from scratch but at least you know that before you publish the video now if you monetize your video youtube will perform a second check to ensure that it follows all of the ad friendly guidelines you can also self-certify your content by answering the questions on the ad suitability section of the upload process as you might have guessed we've done a full tutorial of this screen as well youtube will run the checks for ad suitabilities and it may take a little longer than the copyright checks but again it will let you know what's happened before you unleash that video to the public and so here we have yet another reason why you should never publish your youtube videos as soon as you upload them first of all you want to give your youtube the time to process your videos so that your viewers can enjoy them in the highest quality possible you should always give yourself a time to optimize a video especially the thumbnail especially the title yes the description also those interactive cards and end screens and now you two can check your videos for copyright claims as well as any issues with ad friendly guidelines so that your revenue is not hit when the video goes live with all of that being said then our general recommendation is that unless your video is super time sensitive and you need to release it now you should give yourself at least two hours between upload and publishing now i do want to give youtube credit for an excellent explainer video on this topic check it out over here if you want to learn more about the difference between a copyright claim and a copyright strike we've got a video down there thank you very much watching and hopefully this will help you with your youtube day bye for now
Thanks Mollie your participation is very much appreciated
