episode we're talking about brand guidelines some people call this brand identity guides a brand group could brand manual it's all the same it's a PDF document that you can handle that someone to get a thorough understanding of your brand and your business where a lot of businesses go wrong here though is they only include the identity itself when really a good comprehensive set of brand guidelines should also include things they can France strategy your vision your mission statements and all sorts of things like that so why a brand guidelines important for your business now whether you like it or not you're possibly not always going to be working with your chosen branding agency obviously that is the ideal and preferred route however let's say you're running a TV campaign or buying some print advertising there may be a quick turnaround time you may need to just hand over a document and say okay this is how our brand looks please follow these guidelines and you create an guideline RGB is used for cause on the web CMYK is used for print also you want to include any Pantone tour spot color references within your guidelines brand imagery are using force using collage IES and video imagery is super important and should form a key part of your visual guidelines you don't want people using horrible stock photos of women with headset when really you're all about illustration or cool quirky little animations brand imagery plays a key role in your brand guidelines stationery design not only should you include cars and type you should also include mock-ups for business cards letterheads and any other simple straightforward print materials that your brand might require in the future and finally a website style guide you shouldn't just assume a miss damaged hey guys in this video I am going to show you how to set up a branded Google Doc so any time you are sending documents to clients or to other people that you work with everything looks like it matches your brand because sometimes Google Docs can look a little sterile and unprofessional so this spices it up in a way so you don't have to go in every single time and like change the colors and the fonts and the sizing and all of that good stuff so this we're going to actually start over and up to the top here and go into new document and I am going to at first go into insert I'm going to go into headers and footers I'm going to click header and I'm going to go into insert again and I'm going to go into image and you may have it in your drive you may have it uploaded from your computer but you may want to upload from your computer what you're basically going to want to grab your logo and see if I can find a quick and dirty wand just for the sake of being able to it's here I swear it is you this is me searching for photos all the time okie-dokie karaoke where is it well you know what we could just use this right here I will use the Phoebe come see if it enters the convent and if you want to Center it or make it smaller just grab it to make it smaller smaller and then Center okay there's your header and then we're gonna type in title and subtitle oops yeah holes alright uh heading 1 heading 3 heading 4 and then we're gonna put in our boss and what you're gonna do is right now Joseph in sons is my brand font and I've already changed it but most likely this is going to say Arial if you've done nothing so if we come in here and you highlight it and you come up to your text I've already set these up but if you didn't have this all set up it would just basically have what was the default settings so here you just go in and you'll go in and you'll put in you'll just do whatever you want your break color should be so let's say you want title to be black and then you want the background the the background of it to be one of your brain colors and if you have that explode so you're in college you just put it in here so let's see where is this is my document nope did I close it out here let's do this so here's my document with all my brain colors on it which whether you've done out or you've had a website designer do it if you have the hex code you just grab these command C come in to your brand that's the one I've already created come in here and you just put it in here oops that says head anyone that's not what we want 20 20 so I'm trying to I'm just copying it and you just put it into your hex codes and there you go and then if you depending on what you want for your background color if you want it to be a highlight of let's say a different color or you want and then you want your subtitle you just come in here and you choose your fonts so here's the thing that bugs me about google fonts you can also come in for more fonts you can look in here at this time it is not possible to download your own fonts I don't know if that's ever going to change but like one of my fonts that is one of my brilliant thoughts is I purchased from creative market and it comes in like a TT f or w TF or OTF that is not possible for me to get in Google Docs at this time but because Joseph and science isn't is more of the common font that I can get so depending on what your phone is like if it's Oswald or let's say where some other ones like obviously Helvetica Hmong Sarat obvious these are all way more common ones and then you can come in here to more fun more phones and then there's also another thing that you can do called add-ons and you can do extension ponts you'll just come up here and you'll say get add-ons and you'll come over here and you'll type in extension bugs it's dense it's fonts in my bad and then you just load that on I already have it loaded so I'm not going to go through that again but that just gives you more possibility for it being your font but because I purchase mine from like a designer from creative market it's not in there so at this time I'm just using Joseph in science for all of my title headings which is a bummer because I'd like to do signatures with a like signature font and that's not okay that's not available okay so we come in here we do subtitle Joseph in sound and like if you click on the arrow over you'll see that there's like more options than like not every font has this but you know if yours does great to differentiate so you come in here and let's see it will do you'll do this for each one of yours let's pretend that you did you load it all your brand colors in you change it to each font to let see and then you can change the size too so subtitle let's make it I don't know 24 and we can make the title 36 heading 1 you can keep that as black and maybe make it is 18 and maybe you want to make it a little bit thicker heading 2 not so much as thick and then maybe we want to do a lighter color and I mean think about to think about the legibility of it like how you're going to use it but could you just have different options because there might be a time where you want to plug it in and here let's make this a little bit bigger and you're going to want to do if we're heading 3 heading 4 let's see your what did we do this at I think we did 14 again we'll do 14 as actually let's do this guy is 18 this guy's 14 oops I don't so you can just at the back are to undo normal keep that at 12 which it is heading tour maybe we'll just make that fold you can do whatever you want for your brand new brand colors obviously I'm going to actually come in here we'll grab this paint color again maybe we'll make this one that pink color and then okay so we have all of our different headings we have our logo you could also do this for your footer like if you wanted to put in a footer and maybe you want it to be like you know your website maybe WI hey I'm Kelly calm and then you want it to also be a live link so you'll come up here and you'll type in the link I'd already applied it arrey and like let's say that's what you want on your footer ok so then you'll come over here and you'll do heading one you'll come over I'm not going to do this because I already have mine saved and I kind of want to keep it but you'll just do it as update to match heading one and you'll do this for each one of them same one so you'll just come over hit title highlight it and then you'll go over to title update to match and then after you're done with doing all of these you will come over to this textbox again and you'll come over to options and you'll put save as my default styles and that my friend will save your header or footer and all of your different texts with the colors and the font sizing so every time you go ahead and save a document it automatically is created for you and you'll have to update it each time alright I hope this helps and make your brand feel more cohesive and
